DFI Week 4 - Reflective Blog Post

 What did I learn that increased my understanding of Manaiakalani kaupapa and pedagogy?

  • The importance of SHARE - how powerful it is for students to share their learning to their teachers and others so they can be recognised/celebrated.

  • Sharing to an authentic audience.

  • Face to face sharing vs. through a screen - missing the human connection/one-to-one

  • Social media being the only platform where you can share with people you haven't met from all over the world.

  • Important thought - how can we teach our students to be digital citizens who share positively and securely online.

  • Blogger platform is teaching our learners to be cyber smart.

  • Hard to teach students how to be digital citizens if they aren't engaging in it

  • Share - a way in which we can show that I have finished a piece of learning work.

  • Learning to finish and complete something is a life skill.

  • Acknowledge the power of sharing is the starting place of new learning.


What did I learn that could improve my confidence, capability or workflow as a professional?
  • Hapara hot tips and tricks

  • Google Form - accessing feedback from parents, students, staff, getting contact details for sports teams (can be used for multiple things)

  • Google Sheets - formatting, adding sums, conditional formatting data

  • Analysing data off charts and tables through Google Sheets


What did I learn that could be used with my learners?  
  • Google Forms

  • Teaching the importance of sharing learning and completing/finishing tasks that provide evidence of learning.

  • Google Maps - could incorporate distances/areas into maths work.


What did I learn that could improve my confidence, capability or workflow in my personal life?
  • Using My Maps

  • Google Sheets

  1. Thanks for your informative blog post Michaela. There were some great tips and tricks shared today. The information gathered from the blogs and put into a chart is so powerful and it is a real incentive for students to see a pattern in their learning.
