DFI - Week 9 Reflective Blog Post
Manaiakalani Pedagogy - Ubiquitous Learning
- Putting the learner at the centre of all decisions so educators have their best learning needs at the centre of all decisions.
- The idea that you are a learner anytime, anywhere.
- The ability to learn digitally out of school and not with the teacher sitting right next to you.
- Being able to leave the resources and be able to access valuable learning when teachers aren't in the classroom
- If learning is available online, it is rewindable for students
- Lock down showed that majority of learning was through a screen of some sort (device, tablet, TV etc).
- The tools of a student having a device and access to the internet is life changing.
- "If it's worth teaching and learning its worth capturing". Then students can rewind it and work through it at different paces.
Final Reflection:
The last few weeks have been a huge learning experience for me. I have been able to connect with other educators all around the country as well as work collaboratively with teachers in my community. Learning through Maniakalani pedagogies and principles has allowed me to understand how and why it is important to be a confident digital learner and also for learners to be successful, teachers must be using online learning tools in a meantiful, relevant and effective way. I am proud of my willingness to change and adapt my teaching practice and the amount of new skills I have learned and incorporated into my classroom. Each learner brings their own skill set to the classroom so one thing that I have learned through remote learning is not to assume anything. One thing I have observed is the resilience of children today and their ability to explore and problem solve in the digital world. They are truly inspiring. Through this nine week course, I have a bank of resources and contacts that will be extremely beneficial in my future practice.
Thanks for sharing this reflective blog post Michaela and congratulations on passing your exam. It has been a real pleasure sharing your leaning over the 9 weeks of the DFI and I am so glad you managed to take in so much with, with moving house and so many other challenges.
