What did I learn that increased my understanding of Manaiakalani kaupapa and pedagogy?
  • Empowerment - learners and teachers through the digital age. "The Maniakalani kaupapa of empowerment is about advancing Rangatiratanga: taking back control of their own lifes.

  • Need to actively show teachers the power of a digital tool for their learners.

  • Voice - choice - ownership: learning being exciting and engaging as if it isn't, students won't by in and complete it.

  • Empowering students on digital devices so they can be creators and show their voice through their digital learning.

  • A digitally fluent person can decide how to use digital technology in the most effective way to achieve tasks or solve problems.

  • In order for teachers to teach in a digital way, they need to be fluent, confident, empowered and supported

  • Digital technologies being used effectively can accelerate achievement outcomes

What did I learn that could improve my confidence, capability or workflow as a professional?
  • The importance of empowering students to use digital devices in this digital world.

  • Understanding that students need opportunities to be innovative designers and creators and that problem solving when using a digital device is an important life skill.
